BUTLER/HOUSEPERSON/SECURITY (PART TIME) – BARNET, HERTFORDSHIRE

Overview

An experienced Butler/House Person is sought for a private estate in Barnet, Hertfordshire. This is a part-time role working within a small, collaborative household team in a historic residence. The position requires a flexible, hands-on professional who is comfortable supporting across multiple areas of the home and stepping in wherever needed.

The ideal candidate brings prior private household or five-star hospitality experience, a proactive mindset, and the ability to maintain high standards of service, presentation, and care throughout the property.

Responsibilities

• Provide housekeeping and front-of-house support as needed
• Oversee general security of the residence during weekends
• Open and close the house as required
• Polish silver and wooden furnishings
• Maintain the property during the Principals’ absence, including running taps, baths, and flushing systems
• Provide valet services when the Principal is in residence, including shoe care, pressing garments, and wardrobe maintenance in coordination with the Housekeeper
• Conduct visual inspections of rooms, noting and reporting any issues (lighting, furnishings, presentation)
• Support film stewarding when the property is used for filming
• Assist the Housekeeper with larger or more detailed areas of the home and grounds
• Monitor stock levels and check expiry dates of household items
• Support wine cellar organization as directed
• Provide butler service during dinners and guest visits
• Prepare simple meals when required (e.g., basic hot dishes and light meals)

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Butler/Housekeeper in a private home or five-star hotel environment
• Flexible, team-oriented approach with willingness to assist across roles
• Basic cooking ability
• Valid driver’s license and own transport
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high presentation standards

Schedule

• Part-time, 3 days per week: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Additional days may be offered at £150 per day
